Special Town Meeting set for Thursday on School Committee vote
Sharon will hold a Special Town Meeting Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at Sharon High School to vote on a citizens' petition asking residents to declare no confidence in five School Committee members.
The Town of Sharon announced that a Special Town Meeting will take place Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. at Sharon High School.
The meeting stems from a citizens' petition signed by 314 voters. The petition asks that an article be placed on the warrant so residents can vote on whether to express no confidence in five members of the current School Committee. The Select Board voted Sept. 14 to set the meeting date after receiving the petition.
Because poll pads normally used to check in voters will be unavailable due to the State Election, the town will use paper lists instead, a process officials say will be slower. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. so residents can plan accordingly.
Parking will be available in the high school lot, with additional space across the street on Pond Street and at the Veterans Memorial Park Beach Lot if needed because of construction. Voters at the Beach Lot should walk around the high school to the main entrance.
Voting will be conducted using an electronic clicker system rather than a standing count; the town says the vote cannot be traced to an individual voter.
The town outlined several accessibility accommodations, including additional handicap parking spaces, seats marked for accessibility, closed captioning on a screen in the auditorium, portable microphones for those with mobility challenges, and a family area near the cafeteria with a video feed for parents with young children.
Residents needing specific accommodations can contact Town Clerk Mark Hogan at (781) 784-1500 x1201 or VOTE@sharonma.gov.
