The Sharon Fire Department released a statement Oct. 29 addressing a complaint about a delayed emergency medical response at the Sharon Commuter Rail Station the previous evening.

According to the department, the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 28. A review of dispatch and response records found that the Sharon Fire Department was not initially notified of the medical emergency by MBTA Transit Police. The Holbrook Regional Emergency Communications Center (HRECC) learned of the incident only after Keolis personnel called asking for an ambulance's estimated arrival time.

HRECC then contacted MBTA dispatch and sent Sharon Fire Department personnel at 5:45 p.m. Firefighters arrived on scene at 5:50 p.m., five minutes after being notified, and provided emergency medical care and transportation.

As part of its investigation, the department contacted MBTA Transit Police leadership. Superintendent Richard Sullivan told the department that an internal review found MBTA personnel had not followed established dispatch protocols, and he acknowledged that MBTA Transit Police accepted responsibility for the delay in requesting emergency medical services.

The Sharon Fire Department's own review confirmed that its personnel responded promptly once notified, and that the delay occurred before the department received the request for help. The investigation remains open pending additional MBTA dispatch records and recordings.

The department said it remains committed to providing timely emergency medical services and will keep working with its public safety partners on notification procedures. Residents who believe emergency services are needed are reminded to always dial 911 immediately.

The department's full report, including its verified response timeline and investigative findings, is available by emailing firechief@sharonma.gov to request a copy.
