Sharon Sets July 3 Fireworks Celebration and July 5 Douglass Reading
Sharon has a full patriotic weekend ahead, with the town's annual Independence Day celebration set for July 3 and a Frederick Douglass speech reading planned for July 5 — two distinct community events anchoring the holiday stretch.

The town is promoting its annual Independence Day Celebration on Thursday, July 3, at Veterans' Memorial Park. The evening will feature fireworks, children's activities, food trucks, live music, and more.
Two days later, on Sunday, July 5 at 3 p.m., the community is invited to a reading of abolitionist Frederick Douglass' iconic address, "What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?" The event will be held at the Sharon Historical Society, 16 High St. The reading offers a counterpoint to the holiday weekend and is open to all.
State public health officials have also issued a seasonal advisory: West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes in Massachusetts for the first time this year, with the initial positive sample found in Berkshire County. Residents are encouraged to use insect repellent, wear protective clothing, and eliminate standing water around their properties.
Looking ahead to the calendar, the Finance Committee is scheduled to meet on Monday, June 29.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
Sharon Public Library will close early — at 2 p.m. — on Friday, July 3, and remain closed all day Saturday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. Patrons planning holiday-weekend visits should plan accordingly. The library also notes that parking on site remains limited while solar panel installation continues on the roof.
