Sharon High School reports antisemitic graffiti found in bathroom
Sharon Public Schools said antisemitic graffiti, including a swastika, was found Nov. 3 in a boys' bathroom at Sharon High School. Police are investigating, and counselors were made available to students.
Sharon Public Schools announced that antisemitic graffiti was discovered Nov. 3 in a boys' bathroom at Sharon High School. Superintendent Peter J. Botelho and Principal Kristen Keenan shared the news in a message to high school families and the community. The Sharon Police Department is investigating the incident.
The graffiti included a swastika, profane language directed at Israel and other political messages, according to the message. A member of the community alerted the Superintendent's Office, which contacted high school administrators. They searched all bathrooms and found the one shown in a photograph. Much of the graffiti had already been erased, but enough remained to confirm the incident.
The message said police learned of the incident from someone outside the school at about the same time as administrators. The high school was serving as a polling location for the Nov. 3 election that day. Police will work with high school administrators on the investigation.
The administrators said counselors and administrators would be available the next day to any student who wanted support. They asked anyone who witnessed the vandalism or has information to contact Keenan or another member of the high school administration. They also asked for the community's patience while the facts are investigated.
"Antisemitism, hateful symbols, discriminatory language, and expressions of hatred have no place at Sharon High School or in our community," the message said.
