Select Board · Meeting of June 23, 2026

Sharon Select Board unanimously opens cable franchise licensing process, inviting competition with incumbent Comcast. Chair Xander Shapiro and his board, including Vice Chair Hanna Switlekowski and Clerk Pasqualino Pannone, voted to commence initial licensing subject to state telecommunications guidelines and directed Town Administrator Frederic Turkington to request waivers from the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Cable, maintaining a neutral posture toward all applicants including Verizon. In separate action, the board voted to end the Flock safety camera contract September 12 and committed to public hearings before approving any future surveillance equipment, after residents opposed the system over privacy concerns.

The board also approved municipal energy aggregation rates locking in a two-year natural gas contract at 9.38 and a 12-month electricity rate of 15.696 cents per kilowatt-hour starting November 2026.
