Planning Board denies Sunrise Sharon assisted living facility
Planning Board · Meeting of February 4, 2026
Sharon Planning Board denies Sunrise Senior Living special permit after six-month hearing. The board voted 3-2 against approving a 99-unit assisted living facility at 313 and 319 Norwood Street and 5 Edge Hill Road, rejecting arguments that the project would generate $400,000 in annual tax revenue and serve documented demand for senior housing. Chair Robert Maidman raised concerns about the building's size--52 percent larger than zoning allows--and visibility from the street, calling it the largest variance request ever sought in town.
Three separate motions all failed to reach the four-vote threshold required for approval.
