Sharon Planning Board denies Sunrise Senior Living's 99-unit assisted living facility proposal. The board voted 3-2 against granting a special permit for the project at Norwood Street and Edge Hill Road, with Planning Board Chair Robert Maidman arguing the three-story building represented the largest variance request ever submitted to the town and conflicted with neighborhood character. Applicant counsel Michael Khoury asserted the facility would generate $400,000 in annual taxes and emphasized that the 2023 Housing Impact Production Plan found 46 percent of Sharon residents will reach age 60 or older.
Fire Chief Madden said increased ambulance calls would generate revenue to the town rather than impose costs. Board members Dianne Needle and Peter Ford voted to approve; members Oanh Nguyen, Alex Schneiderman, and Chair Maidman voted no.
