Finance Committee recommends $116.3M FY2027 budget and rejects Historical Society digitization grant

Sharon Finance Committee approves $116.3 million FY2027 budget unanimously. The allocation includes $57.8 million to schools, $39 million to non-discretionary expenses, and $17.8 million to the Select Board sector, with members requesting additional detail from the School Department on prior-year spending variances. The Committee also voted unanimously to recommend a citizen petition banning second-generation rodenticides from all town buildings and simultaneously voted 10-0 to approve $328,200 in Community Preservation funds for Rattlesnake Hill open space debt service and $103,000 for Lake Massapoag water quality projects, but rejected the $28,000 Historical Society digitization grant by a vote of 0-9-1 over concerns about public funding precedent for nonprofits.
